Double detect - fact or fallacy?
That depends on your set up, product and machine generation....
Pfankuch feeders are used world wide in a variety of security printing operations. Errors are unacceptable - and Pfankuch satisfies the most stringent requirements.
Most Pfankuch feeders use a "single cell" miss and double detect system based on infra-red technology. An emitter and receiver "learn" a product during set-up and then compare each subsequent product fed to the initial setting. This is an extremely reliable and consistent method and allows us to perform a double detect function simultaneously while counting.
But your machine doesn't count accurately you say? Let's take a closer look. First, are the emitter and/or receiver covered in paper dust? Are they properly aligned? Has the machine been "taught" a new product? Is the product printed with large contrasts, or does it have metalization in areas? Is the product of varying thickness (e.g. an envelope with 1 to 5 layers depending on configuration, orientation and where you read it?) Give us a call. We may be able to talk you through some additional troubleshooting or "set-up" steps to help overcome the counting error.
What about thicker products, products with varying thickness and print, clear products or situations where we just want an additional check? Pfankuch offers a variety of solutions ranging from. Some are simple retrofits and others necessitate a machine upgrade. Budget, urgency and criticality all play a role in identifying the correct solution. For instance, is the consequence of a double feed simply using an extra $.005 piece of paper, a potential "big box retailer" penalty, or an FDA recall? Options include additional sensors, laser/mechanical systems and the very capable and flexible VS2002 controller.
The VS2002 incorporates an encoder into the double detect procedure, and automatically accounts for differences in product thickness or appearance present at the same point in the feeding of each piece. This is but one of the numerous enhancements of this latest generation controller. In most cases, VS2000 feeders can be economically retrofit with this controller. Interested?
