Rear support curve (the heart of the feeder)

Why is the rear support curve important?  This is probably the single most critical adjustment on the machine when it comes to ensuring consistent, trouble free operation.  Before you adjust stripper wheels, gap, or anything else, look at this first.

How does it work?  The support curve holds the weight of the pile off the product being fed.  By doing that you can be much gentler with feed belt force, used a wider separation gap and accelerate product faster without marring, scuffing, delamination, etc.  The key is to keep the weight supported and allow a couple pieces to fall into position at a time.

How should it be set up?  Adjusting the support curve is as much "art" as it is "science."  Proper operator training is critical.  The following set-up points are ideal:

Ø      the curve should mirror the curve of the support rods in the front

Ø      the curve should support the weight of the pile of product

Ø      angle of the pile should be adjusted to ensure consistent feeding

Ø      only a small number of products should drop into feed position at the bottom at any time

Sometimes I get so close, but then when I try to adjust it the last little bit I lose it.  If Calibrated Support Curveyou use the older style you may struggle with this.  Remember that we offer retrofits for the calibrated support curve which makes fine-tune adjustments much easier.

The curve is too wide (narrow, short, etc.) for my product.  If you run wide or narrow products you may have found that the support curve isn't adequate.  For narrow products you may need to tighten the side guides further than the 60mm wide curve will allow.  We sell narrower versions which can be easily adapted to your feeder.  On the other hand if you run pieces wider than 5 or 6" you may well need a double support curve to prevent the sides from drooping and interfering with feeding.
